Freedom Day Centre
Description
Freedom Day Centre provides a safe and welcoming environment for individuals with Learning Disabilities and other special needs. Our aim is to help our service users to be more independent, gain new skills, as well as developing current ones and become a more active part of the community.
At Freedom we understand that everyone an individual and has individual needs. For this reason we create a “Person Centred Progression Plan” which identifies aims, goals, likes and dislikes and helps our staff members get to know you and use a person centred approach whilst working alongside you.
Service users will also get their own scrap book and drawer when attending Freedom Day Centre to keep work safe. This can then be shown at Progress Meetings, held every 6-8 months to assess each individuals development, needs, etc.
Another important part of our day centre is Cafe Freedom, which is our “inclusive” cafe, meaning we will do our best to meet everyone’s needs. We serve homemade meals at an affordable price and include daily meal offers throughout the week. All proceeds from our cafe go back into our day centre.
We provide a variety of activities at Freedom that meet educational, social and therapeutic needs.
Our activities include:
- Working in our cafe (Cafe Freedom)
- Gardening (At our allotment and at Badsey Church)
- Cooking and Baking (We also offer work experience and qualifications for those wanting to work in the kitchen)
- Computers
- Using the Sensory Room
- Art and Crafts
- Dance, Music and Drama (We also host talent shows and plays)
- Swimming
- Football
- History
- English and Maths
- Sign Language
- Science
- Skittles
- And so much more…
At Freedom Day Centre we strive to ensure that each of our service users is treated as an individual and meets their personal goals, if not more. We like to build up good relationships with Parents, Carers, Guardians, etc to ensure that they have as much input as required into the development of each service user.
We are looking for volunteers to:
Help us keep our allotment going. This will involve helping a member of the team and service users maintain it by planting weeding and watering . This would be Monday to Friday 10-2 , days and times to suit you.
We would also love to have volunteers come into the centre and learn some of our service users how to knit and sew. Again days and times would be to fit in with you.
